# Unlocking Career Opportunities in Indonesia's Modern Fisheries Sector

Stepping into a rewarding career on the open ocean has never been more accessible, thanks to a massive national push to upgrade the country's maritime capabilities. The Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries has rolled out an ambitious Fishing Vessel Modernization Program designed to supercharge the productivity of local fishers and fundamentally transform the national captured fisheries landscape.

Between 2026 and 2028, a staggering 1,582 modern fishing vessels will be constructed in phases. This impressive fleet will feature 1,000 vessels of 30 GT, 557 vessels of 200 GT, and 25 heavy-duty vessels reaching 500 GT. Outfitted with advanced gear such as Pelagic Purse Seines, Gill Nets, Handlines, Bottom Longlines, Tuna Pole Lines, and specialized transport vessels tailored to regional waters, this initiative is a game-changer for the economy. Beyond fortifying the national fleet, the modernization drive will generate thousands of stable, well-paying jobs and uplift coastal communities across the archipelago.
